On Monday morning, December 1, the San Juan County Elections Office accepted an application for a manual recount in the San Juan County District 4 County Council race. The request was submitted by Mindy Kayl, who lost to Richard Fralick in that race. In the final count of the 1,921 ballots cast, Fralick received 947 votes, Kayl received 827 votes, and there were 12 write-in votes and 136 undervotes.

The San Juan County Canvass Board scheduled the recount to begin at 9 a.m. on December 4. “All of the ballots for precincts two and four were recounted, and the results were the same as the original count,” said Elections Supervisor Doris Schaller. “Fralick remains district 4 county council member.”
