The San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported the following calls:
Oct. 31: Excessive speed prompted the arrest of a Maple Valley man wanted on felony charges following a late-night traffic stop on Orcas Island. The 41-year-old, reportedly wanted by state Corrections officials and in King County for failure to appear in court, was pulled over at about 10 p.m. in the 100 block of Lovers Lane. He was taken to Friday Harbor for possible extradition and also ticketed for speeding.
Reports of a fight between two San Juan Island men near the Friday Harbor ferry landing prompted the arrest of one of the two supposed combatants. A 28-year-old man was taken into custody on misdemeanor assault at about 6:30 p.m.
Nov. 3: Two San Juan Island girls were arrested for allegedly shoplifting $12 of merchandise from Kings grocery store in mid-afternoon. The two 14-year-olds are accused of stealing three beverages and two packs of gum.
For the second time in the past two weeks the elementary school in Friday Harbor was hit by vandalism when someone reportedly used spray paint to deface playground equipment in the most recent episode. Plants and flower pots were reportedly uprooted and damaged the week before.
Nov. 4: A purse belonging to an Orcas Island girl disappeared from a hallway at the public high school in an apparent mid-morning theft. The 17-year-old’s purse, which reportedly contained her wallet and Ipod, vanished from a hallway near a bathroom sometime before 11:30 a.m.
A laptop computer disappeared from the UPS office at the Eastsound airport in an apparent after-hours break-in and theft. The laptop, which was in its package and awaiting pickup by a customer, was reportedly the only item missing.
Nov. 5: The whereabouts of a Seattle man remain unknown after he reportedly used a bogus check to retrieve his vehicle from impound following a recent arrest on Orcas Island for DUI. A warrant was issued for arrest of the 33-year-old, who failed to appear in court on the DUI offense and who wrote a $291 to an Orcas Island towing company that reportedly bounced.
A San Juan Island man faces a charge of misdemeanor theft for allegedly shoplifting an assortment of merchandise from Kings grocery store in late afternoon. The 23-year-old, who was reportedly caught trying to steal chicken nuggets, a 2-liter container of pop and a 6-pak of beer, was taken into custody at about 5 p.m.
Nov. 6: An Orcas Island man faces a misdemeanor offense for allegedly killing a deer with a bow and arrow in a heavily-wooded area near the heart of Eastsound Village. The 42-year-old, who was reportedly hunting without proper hunting tags and out of bow-hunting season, was taken into custody in a wooded area near Lovers Lane shortly after 4 p.m. He reportedly shot and killed a buck and had the animal in his possession at that time.
A dispute over privacy reportedly erupted into an altercation and prompted the arrest of a San Juan Island woman accused of kicking in a bedroom door and pouring vodka over her boyfriend’s head. The 42-year-old, who was taken into custody at about 9 p.m. at her Larson Street home, faces charges of misdemeanor assault and malicious mischief. An argument over the woman’s daughter using the couple’s bedroom shower reportedly erupted when the man locked himself inside the bedroom, leaving her – temporarily – outside.
