High fire danger means only recreational fires

Robert Low, San Juan County Fire Marshal announced today that starting July 1, the fire danger in San Juan County will go up to HIGH.

This means there will be no more burning allowed other than recreational fires.

The definition of a recreational fire is 2 foot or less on bare soil, gravel, below tide line on the beach or in an approved fire pit. Do not burn garbage such as cans, paper plates or plastic wrappers. FIRE SIZE: 2 foot or less. FLAMES: 2 foot or less. AROUND PIT: 2 feet min. of safe space. Please be sure your fire is completely out by using plenty of water and stirring the embers until the heat is gone.
