Auditions for Orcas Idol will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Grange. The community is invited to attend and enjoy an evening of great singing by talented Orcas Island performers, plus hot apple cider and treats. Tickets for auditions at the Grange will be $5 for the audience (singers will not be charged) and may be purchased at the door.
Five contestants will be selected that night to compete for Orcas Idol on stage at the Orcas Center, Saturday, Feb. 4. The five will be joined by the talented voices of Mike Weaver, Beth Baker, Tony Lee, Makayla Speed, Koshalla Goodrich and Amelia Carver, who have already been selected to take part in the competition.
The 11 contestants will each sing a song, then receive comments from a panel of judges.
But audience members will decide who moves onto the next round of six. The process will be repeated among the six, and will result in there being three finalists. That will lead to the final round, and the naming of an Orcas Idol.
Orcas Idol promises to be a delightful evening of music, playful competition, and hilarious commentary from the Orcas Idol judges.
First place winner of Orcas Idol will take home $200 cash and a studio recording session engineered and produced by Jim Bredouw to create a CD of a song of their choice.
Advance tickets for Orcas Idol will be on sale at Radio Shack, Darvills Bookstore, and Rays Pharmacy, and can be purchased at the Orcas Center the night of the event. Orcas Island Radio Shack is generously sponsoring the production of Orcas Idol. All proceeds will benefit Orcas Island Prevention Partnership and its prevention programs that support a safe and healthy community.
