Olga Symphony sets two fun shows
June 17, 2008 · Updated 5:33 PM
The Olga Symphony will again take center stage at the Orcas Center the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 25 and 26, at 7:30 p.m. The band will fill the stage with many stringed instruments but nary a violin or viola among them. Instead you'll find fiddles, guitars, mandolins, banjos, saw, flutes, whistles, concertinas, piano, and vocado (really!). This is because the Symphony is a string band of sorts that plays an eclectic selection of songs and tunes. And they sing, too.
The Symphony has again invited some friends to join them. Among them are Seattle area musicians J. P. Wittman, Bob Olson, and Tim Cardinale. (The latter two were founding members of the Symphony.) Islanders Mandy Troxel, Jim Bredouw, and Martin Lund will also join in the fun. A few other friends may be dropping by as well, not to mention the all-important clothing factor...promises of new gowns and, as they say, "It's not about the music."
The Symphony will (as always) donate all of the proceeds from the concert to Orcas Island charities. Through the years the Symphony has donated money to Childrens House, Kaliedescope, Wolf Hollow, Orcas Island Recreation Program, The Senior Center, Orcas Island Education Foundation, Orcas Center, and many others. Tickets are still just $5, and available at Orcas Center.
