Certified to fight wildland fires

These members of the Orcas Island Fire Department have gone the extra mile by becoming State certified Wildland Firefighters. They are required to recertify each year with at least eight hours of safety training and emergency fire shelter deployment. They must also pass an ardous physical endurance. When a call for help fighting wildland fires off-island comes in, only a portion of the team will leave.
