Rosario hopes to add 150 water connections
June 17, 2008 · Updated 5:02 PM
Efforts are underway by Rosario Utilities to expand its water treatment plant in order to support up to 150 new water connections by next fall if timely approvals are secured.
Gray & Osborne Engineering from Seattle is completing the required technical work so we can submit plans to the State of Washington Health Department for approval. We have low-interest financing in place from the state revolving fund for the improvements. Financing expenses will totally be paid for by the new customers, explained Chris Vierthaler, Rosario Utilities general manager.
In a recent survey of service area property owners provided to the utility by the Rosario Property Owners Association, approximately 40 indicated intentions or interest in requesting new services. Rosario Resort plans to purchase 44 new connections for Phase 1 of its new master plan development.
With the total of 84 new hook-ups represented by these two groups, we will still have 66 uncommitted water connections. This should be sufficient capacity for the local needs for some years to come, said Vierthaler.
Laurie Cameron, managing director of Olympus Real Estate Partners, confirmed at an Aug. 14 meeting with Rosario Property Owners Association members that progress has been made in expanding Rosario Utilities' capacity.
