June 17, 2008 · Updated 4:44 PM
Large-scale abstract paintings by Joe Floren will be featured in the Orcas Senior Center's Lundeen Gallery through mid-May. A reception opening the exhibit will be held 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, April 8.
The show's paintings range from pure abstraction to impressionistic images of the Northwest landscape.
Floren's work has appeared in one-man shows at the Tacoma Art Museum, Attic Gallery in Portland, and private galleries and museums elsewhere in Oregon, including Lake Oswego, Yachats, Newport, Hillsboro and Sunriver, and in Yakima. His work was selected for juried "Artists of Oregon" group shows at the Portland Art Museum, and at regional juried exhibits. His abstracts hang in lobbies and corporate offices in the Northwest, as well as in private homes.
Self-taught, Floren has painted since his mid-20s. He is now 76. This is his first exhibit here in the San Juans. He moved here in 2000.
