Entire community is invited to dinner
June 17, 2008 · Updated 4:25 PM
Two years ago, the Odd Fellows-sponsored community Thanksgiving dinner was attended by about 90 islanders.
This the word got out that both the dinner and the fellowship were special, and last year more than 200 people attended.
Once again, everybody had a great time, and this has the Odd Fellows making plans in case an even bigger crowd comes to the hall this Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., for what can now be listed as an annual community event.
In fact, the more the merrier, say Bill and Monique Gincig, who are heading up the effort. Or, as Bill puts it, The purpose is to have a function where the community can come closer together, share, and enjoy each others company.
The entire building will be opened up for the dinner, enabling seating for as many as 400 people. But the Odd Fellows are hoping that people will be arriving at different times so as to minimize the length of the lines.
Last year, the Odd Fellows provided six turkeys for the occasion. This year theyre planning to cook nine birds, all of them donated by local supporters.
The Odd Fellows also will provide the dressing and tableware.
Everyone else is asked to bring a beverage of choice and a dish to share. Suggested potluck contributions by the first letter of the last name are as follows: A-M, bring your favorite side-dish (mashed potatoes, yams, veggies, etc.); N-R, bring a salad or bread and butter; S-Z, bring dessert. However, everyone should feel free to bring their famous specialty dish instead of the suggested one.
