About 150 islanders spent the afternoon prior to the start of the Republican Convention honoring Mother Earth and waving signs urging the defeat of President George W. Bush this November. Participants marched from Lopez Center to Isabell’s Espresso, then heard local musicians, poets and speakers condemn the Iraq war and urge the election of Democratic challenger John Kerry. Most of the marchers were from Lopez, but they were joined by several from Orcas and San Juan islands.
