The League of Women Voters of the San Juans will host candidate forums prior to the Sept. 14 primary election on Lopez, Orcas, and San Juan islands.

The primary forums will focus on local candidates and issues only. Voters in all three locations will have an opportunity both to listen to the presentations of the candidates for county commissioner and ask questions of them.

San Juan Island will have additional presentations relating to two local proposed levies: the San Juan County Hospital District #1 Emergency Medical Services; and the San Juan Island Parks and Recreation District.

The schedule is as follows:

Lopez Island: Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m., Lopez Center for Community and the Arts;

San Juan Island: Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at 7 p.m., in Friday Harbor at the Mullis Community Senior Center, co-sponsor of this forum;

Orcas Island: Thursday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Orcas Senior Center in Eastsound.

Preceding the general election in November, the League will hold October candidate forums for local offices and issues and invite candidates for state and national offices as well.
