On Friday, May 7, Orcas Center will host a special evening of art, dance, and music by Orcas Island students. The evening will start at 5:30 p.m. with the opening reception for a student art show that will be featured in the lobby gallery during May, along with a new exhibit of adult art in the Madrona Room.

Ceramics, paintings, and sculptures by students from the Orcas Middle and High Schools, Orcas Christian School, and OASIS will be on display. The high school band will provide music, and food prepared by the students will be served.

The reception will be followed by a showing of student-generated dance works on CenterStage at 7:30 p.m. Dance artist Gary Reed has been in residence at Orcas Center for two weeks, teaching kids the vocabulary of dance and how to express themselves through movement. Friday evening’s show will feature as many as 60 island students.

Reed’s residency has been made possible by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.
