The first annual Orcas Island Earth Day parade will take place in Eastsound, Tuesday, April 22, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. It will begin at the Orcas Elementary School and loop through town.

Participants are urged to bring costumes, art, placards, songs, dance and eco-friendly floats. All ages and walks of life are welcome, especially old hippies, tree huggers, wood nymphs, monkey wrenchers, greeners, eco-freaks, creative artists, and other concerned citizens who are willing to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

The parade is being sponsored by Greg Books’ Environmental Science class at the Orcas High School. Class members are also participating in a variety of cleanup efforts around the island.

Sophomore Tyler Jo Holmes came up with the idea to hold a parade. She is leading the effort.
