Orcas Island voters said “no” to the public library’s levy lift proposal which, if passed, would have enabled the library to expand the facility.

San Juan County voters, meanwhile, reelected Sheriff Bill Cumming and nominated Shaw islander Dave Anderson to oppose incumbent Rhea Miller in November.

The library levy lift failed 969-568. Cumming outpolled challenger Jeff Asher 3313-2234.

Anderson received 1081 votes, compared to 917 for Gary Franco and 461 for Johnson. Miller, running unopposed as a Democrat, received 2928 votes.

Incumbent County Assessor Paul Dossett outpolled challenger Dylan Stephens 3120-2015. Incumbent County Auditor Si Stephens outpolled challenger, Sandy Baxter 3171-2197.

Many absentee ballots remain to be counted, but it is highly unlikely that they will change the results. Votes counted include ballots cast at the polls, plus all absentee ballots received by the county elections office through Thursday at 4 p.m.. The county elections department reports there will be no new election reults until Tuesday, September 24.
