Satan's Chamber author to read at Artsmith salon

A cloud of desert sand will follow Satan's Chamber author Molly Best Tinsley to Doe Bay Resort on Monday, Nov. 9.

The weekly Artsmith Salon series begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature Tinsley, co-author of the recently released novel Satan's Chamber. Satan's Chamber has been called an engrossing geopolitical intrigue and takes the reader to Sudan where good and evil battle on the pages in a haze of yellow dust.

Tinsley won the Oregon Book Award for her short story collection Throwing Knives as well as the Sandstone Prize in short fiction. Tinsley's stories have appeared in Prairie Schooner, New England Review, Shenandoah, and the Pushcart Prize Anthology. She is also coauthor of The Creative Process, a book on craft. Tinsley comes to Orcas from Ashland, Oregon.

Local playwright Elsie McFarland will also read at the Nov. 9 salon. McFarland began participating in Doug Bechtel's One Act Play Festival three years ago.

"I submitted a play, saw it produced, and then I was hooked," McFarland said.

The readings by Tinsley and McFarland will be followed by the weekly writers' open mic.

The salon is free to attend and is a collaboration between the Orcas nonprofit Artsmith and Doe Bay Resort. Located in Eastsound, Artsmith promotes writers and visual artists and provides residencies for them to produce new work.
