Leadership San Juan Islands Class V begins in January

Leadership San Juan Islands selected 20 outstanding, diverse individuals from the island community for the 2009 class.

San Juan Island

Angie Attwell, Kristy Ayers, Bettye Hendricksen, Katie Loring, Barbara Marrett, Kiara McLauglin, Tracy Roberson, and Brian Windrope.

Orcas Island

Louise Carnachan, Owen Cheevers, Margie Doyle, Ethna Fianagan, Steve Gresham, Barbara LaBrash, Learner Limbach, and Marta-Maria Nielson.

Lopez Island

Cheryl Harlan, Suzi Marean, Claire Nollman, and Lou Pray.

These individuals come from the health and social services, business, education, government and nonprofit sectors and bring with them an outstanding background of community service.

The participants will kick off the program with a orientation held at the Harrison House B&B in Friday Harbor on Jan. 9 and a retreat weekend held Jan. 23 and 24 at the Heartwood House Orcas Island.

The program will continue through May 2009 with monthly Challenge Days held at locations throughout the islands. They will present speakers, discussions and activities on a major topic. A closing retreat and commencement will be held in May 2009.

    The Orcas Island Camera Club blog publishes announcements of upcoming photography events and contests.
  • Whale of a Porpoise
    This blog is filled with photos of the San Juan Islands' resident orcas, identified by name. There are audio clips of the orcas communicating as well. The author is Jeanne Hyde, a Friday Harbor resident.
