Meeting on sustainable operation of state parks
May 23, 2012 · 1:34 PM
Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has been given a legislative mandate to set forth how they will operate state parks in a self-sustainable manner.
The commission is holding meetings around the state to propose financial and operational alternatives and gather ideas from the public.
Friends of Moran will host a meeting at the Eastsound Fire Hall, Saturday, June 9, 2- 4 p.m. discussing whether state park systems should operate more like an enterprise-based hospitality industry, a public conservation asset based mostly on grant and tax funding or a nonprofit.
The intent of the meeting is to gather ideas, answer questions, partner with volunteer groups and promote volunteer support for the park within the community. For more info, visit www.parks.wa.gov/Beyond2013.
