Teen cellist wins music festival

Orcas Island teenager Oliver Aldort was one of the two top medalists at the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival held March 23-29. The week long competitions draws from the Northwestern states and Canada. The 14-year-old won at the senior level competing against students 14 to 19 years of age.

Aldort, the other medalist, and four divisional winners will perform with the Philharmonia Northwest Orchestra on May 10 at Kane Hall on the University of Washington campus at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Aldort will give a full recital at Orcas Center on June 28 and will perform the full Dvorak cello concerto with the Philharmonia Northwest on November 23.
