As PEN Northwest’s Boyden Wilderness Writer for 2000, Joe spent seven months, alone most of the time, at the Dutch Henry Homestead in Oregon’s Rogue River Canyon. That experience produced many of the poems in “The End of Forgiveness,” which won the Floating Bridge Press Poetry Chapbook Award for 2001. His poems have also been collected in “His Inadequate Vocabulary,” “Deluxe Motel,” and “Greatest Hits: 1975 2000.” Another residency in 2002, at Fundación Valparaiso, in Mojácar, Spain, gave shape to more recent, uncollected poems. He has taught English at Lower Columbia College, in Longview, Washington, since 1986.

Joe’s poetry has appeared in such publications as The Bellingham Review, Crab Creek Review, 5 AM and Free Lunch as well as Litspeak Dresden, in Germany, and Departure: New Series and The Stony Thursday Book in Ireland.
