Paper airplane contest was fun for all

by Joanne Cundy

We had so much fun this year! Not only did Orcas Radio Controlled Airplay Society give away a brand new airplane to a very excited Ethan Younger, age 6, but Evan Kulper (pictured here) won the basket contest! Evan is only the third person in 22 years to fly his airplane into the wicker basket placed in the middle of the gym floor.

Way to go everyone who participated, won ribbons and had fun. Kiwanis club wishes to especially thank George Garrels who spent around 30 hours organizing and planning the event. We also wish to thank ORCAS for their wonderful participation and for making the airplane winner so very happy. Kiwanis would also like to recognize and thank our own high school Key club for their volunteer assistance throughout the day.

Thank you, Orcas for contributing to an enjoyable afternoon. Sponsors were: Rainbow Services, Kenmore Air, Orcas Island Pottery, Orcas Auto Tech, Ace Hardware Darvill’s Bookstore, Orcas Center, Brenda Ivans, DMD, Orcas Village Store, Island Market.
