Calling all writers

Hear that beat? That should be the quickening heart rate of all you Island Writers preparing your entries to the drum beat of the 2018 “Rockin’ the Salish Sea” San Juan County Fair, which is Aug. 16-19. The deadline for entries is July 20. So, polish up those writings – prose, poetry, writing for children – from the last two years, and postmark them to Island Writers, SJC Fair, POB 1094, Friday Harbor, WA 98250 or email them to info@sjcfair.org by July 20.

July dance class

The next community dance class will be held on Monday, July 2, at the Odd Fellows Hall from 7-9 p.m. The class this month will be East Coast Swing. Instruction begins promptly at 7 p.m. followed by dancing at 8 p.m. The classes are free, and no partner is needed.

Donate books

The Friends of the Orcas Island Library is accepting books for the upcoming library fair to be held Aug. 11. They want hardcover and paperbacks in good condition no matter the topic – from poetry to pets, cookbooks to children’s books, history to health, fiction to foreign language and CDs to DVDs. You can drop them off at the library.

Hearts and Hands seeking volunteers

Hearts and Hands is actively recruiting additional volunteers in an effort to respond to increased requests for in-home companionship visits and household assistance. Folks interested in “paying it forward” should contact Program Director Tom Eversole at 360-370-0562.
