Orcas Center’s ‘Mamma Mia!’ is pure joy

From start to finish, Orcas Center’s production of “Mamma Mia!” is heartwarming, hilarious and high-spirited.

The heart of the play is the love between a mother and daughter. Melinda Milligan, a masterful actress and singer, plays a poised Donna Sheridan, whose daughter Sophie, played by the triple threat Hailey Averna, is set to be married in a few days time. Chaos ensues when Sophie secretly invites three men, any of whom could be her biological father.

Set against the backdrop of an idyllic Greek island with the impossible-to-resist music of ABBA, incredible choreography of Tiffany Loney and direction by Doug Bechtel, “Mamma Mia!” will leave you with a smile on your step and a swing in your step.

The show is presented over the course of three weekends now through the grand finale on March 30. A 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24 “ferry matinee” welcomes folks from other islands, while the second and third Thursdays will be singalongs, with lyrics displayed on the walls so attendees can belt out “Mamma Mia” en masse. Tickets are $15-20 online at www.orcascenter.org.
