LeRoy Bell Concert raises awareness and funds for DVSAS

It was a good thing there was dancing room in the back when LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends got Orcas Center rocking last weekend.

It was a good thing there was dancing room in the back when LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends got Orcas Center rocking last weekend.

In keeping with the evening’s solemn theme of supporting San Juan County’s Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services, Bell launched the night off with some mellow, soul-searching songs in his rich, dusky voice. But after intermission, the band was ready to party like it was Saturday night.

Bell launched into feel-good “I’m in love with you girl,” and the drums got the feet tapping. If the feet weren’t dancing, the hands were clapping as DVSAS board of directors president Norm Stamper led the way, boogying down in front of the stage.

Bell busted out some titles from his new cd, “Traces,” and treated the crowd to “He Can’t Hold Her,” a song about a woman escaping from a bad relationship, bringing the evening to a smooth finish before an after-show reception in the Madrona Room.

The event hosted 120 guests and netted $1000 for DVSAS.
