Holiday happenings

Spiral Walk

Enjoy the 30-long winter ritual of a spiral walk in Eastsound on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m., Odd Fellows Hall. This beautiful, reverent event marks the season of darkness and reminds us of the promise of the return of light. The advent angel will lead children through the spiral of evergreen boughs as we sing a seasonal verse and celebrate the courage of walking through the darkness and the exaltation of finding one’s light. All are welcome. The event is free. A donation of canned food for the Orcas Food Bank or a small donation to cover the costs of the event is appreciated. Call Paul at Salmonberry School at 376-6310 for info.

Holiday tea

The Cancer Survivorship Group is having a holiday tea at the new Eastsound home of Bogdan and Carol Kulminski on Dec. 8. To allow arrivals in the daylight, the tea will begin at 4 p.m., with the meeting to follow at 5 p.m. for those who wish to participate.

“We welcome all whose lives have been touched by cancer in any way,” say organizers. “At Christmas especially, we want to share compassion, hope, joy and encouragement.” Call Bogdan or Carol at 376-4198 for directions.

Crow Valley String Band concert

The Crow Valley String Band – Jim Litch, Rachel Bishop and Tashi and Kaj Litch – invite you to join them for an evening of fun and music on Friday, Dec. 9 at Random Howse. In addition to the family foursome, newly named duo Brograss (formerly Brother for Sale) will play some traditional bluegrass tunes, and be joined by Martin Lund for some fun swing numbers and Robb Eagle on guitar for 20-stringed entertainment. Carl Burger will provide his tunes, charm and wit and be joined by Tish Knapp and Marj Franke to wish us all a Merry Christmas! The music starts at 7 p.m. There is no cover fee.
