Dancers bring ‘Musical Manifestos’ to life

Anthony the Dancer is known for presenting shows that are a melting pot of ballet, modern, salsa, jazz and hip hop.

And this time around, he is tackling heavy issues.

“Initially I wanted to do a show about musicals, but with so much going on in the nation and the world, I decided to give voice to some other things,” he said.

The Island Inspiration All-Star Dancers will present “Musical Manifestos” at the Sea View Theatre on Sunday, March 5. There will be two showings: 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Admission is $13 per person. Tickets are at www.brownpapertickets.com and at The Kitchen in Eastound.

While Anthony left some of the musical theatre pieces in, his other numbers touch on domestic violence, family communication and Standing Rock.

His work is being brought to life by dancers Gail Bulletset, Charles Dalton, Jessica Kruger, Tiffany Loney, Aristotle Luna, Stephanie Moss, Samantha Sprenger, Tori Sturk, Anwyn Thompson with the Hein-O’Kins of Lopez Island, Caden Hein, Gavin Hein and Andrea O’Bryant. New York-based dancer Leigh Schanfein is coming to Orcas for the show as well. She will present solo pieces choreographed by Anthony.

“I love this group. There is a tremendous amount of dedication and improvement since our last show in September,” he said.
