Charlotte’s Closet provides outfits and self-esteem for girls

A new store is offering free new and quality used clothing and accessories for young girls through high school.

There will be a grand opening and refreshments for interested community members on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The store is located upstairs in the rear of the brick building on the Orcas Christian School campus.

“When you look good you feel good,” said Dawn Parnell, who is behind the Charlotte’s Closet Retail store. “That one special item can make all the difference in boosting one’s self esteem. Sometimes it’s hard to get off island, cute clothing and accessories can be expensive and finding something that fits online is hard compared to touching, feeling and trying it on. We have been shopping sales and retail outlets for brand name items, including tops, bottoms, pajamas, underwear, socks, accessories, bedding, purses and shoes. With a lot of community members help we have set up a really cute boutique, girls-only store.”

Girls can be referred by teachers, counselors, caseworkers, SAFE San Juans or community members to come and shop for a special outfit or two or an accessory. A wide array toiletries will also be included. A visit to Charlotte’s Closet is totally confidential and is open by appointment only. Contact Parnell at 360-317-4026 to schedule your special shopping adventure. Donations can be dropped off at the Orcas Christian School.
