Chamber to sell t-shirts for funding fireworks show

The Eastsound fireworks show, put on by the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Thursday, July 4.

The cost of putting it on has increased over the years. With stricter marine and Homeland Security regulations, higher costs of pyrotechnics and a launching barge, the total price tag for the fireworks is $17,000.

“Unfortunately, the chamber no longer can absorb the full cost into its operations budget, and we need your help to continue this grand island tradition,” said Lance Evans, chamber director.

The chamber board created “Celebrate Orcas” t-shirts, designed by Chase Woodward, to help fundraise for the event. The shirts are $20 a piece and all proceeds go to the fireworks. They are available at the chamber office and will be for sale in the Eastsound Waterfront Park prior to the show on July 4.

In addition, there are three financial sponsorship levels for the event: Gold ($500+); Silver ($250 – $499); Bronze ($100 – $249). You can donate at The Orcas Island Community Foundation’s website at https://oicf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create?funit_id=1061, mail a check to the OICF, PO Box 1496, Eastsound, WA 98245 or email info@orcasislandchamber.com to sign up as a sponsor.

“We value every dollar received, even if you can’t join our sponsorship levels,” Evans said. “Even $10, $20 or $50 will go a long way to helping us keep this Orcas Island tradition alive.”
