Beginning Oct. 26 Orcas Center will feature the award-winning show “The Addams Family – The Musical,” on Center Stage with Seattle’s Sam Pettit directing an all-island cast. Bring the whole family for a laugh out loud night of theatre. “The Addams Family” will run for six performances, Oct. 26-31, 7:30 p.m. at Orcas Center.
On her 18th birthday, Wednesday Addams invites her normal boyfriend and his normal family from Ohio to dine with her quirky relations. What should be an evening of family meeting family turns into a night of chaos, lies, mayhem, truths, silliness and fun. It is a lesson on love and being true to yourself taught as only the Addams Family can.
“The Addams Family – The Musical” is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. The show is based on “The Addams Family” characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel gag cartoons, which depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre. The production has won numerous awards and has been nominated for several others.
Orcas Center welcomes guest director and choreographer from Seattle, Samuel J. Pettit. Sam has worked as choreographer and director on “Legally Blond,” “Oliver,” “Pirates of Penzance,” “Anything Goes,” “Peter Pan,” “Pippi Longstocking,” “Annie,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Seussical,” “The Addams Family” and others. Currently, he is associate artistic director of Studio East Theatre and has been teaching theatre for 13 years and is the co-founder of Origami Girl Productions, voted “Best of Fest” at the Seattle Fringe Festival.
Pettit says, “The most important thing about the Addamses that we know and love is that no matter how ghoulish, macabre or dark they seem, at the core they are all about family.”
