Thursday, July 16 through August 13

Ballroom dance: Orcas Center is offering the Summer Ballroom Dance class series with Lynn Richards. Taught in the Madrona Room on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuition is $60 for the series. Thursday, July 16

Book signing: Gregory Kramer will read from his latest book “Insight Dialogue: The Interpersonal Path to Freedom” at Darvill’s Bookstore at 7 p.m. For more information, go to www.metta.org or www.indralaya.org.

Friday, July 17

Solution Method orientation: From 3 to 4 p.m. at the Orcas Library, River Malcolm will offer a free one-hour introduction to the Solution Method, which provides science-based tools to shift the brain from stress to joy. For more information, contact River at 376-4548 or river@orcasonline.com.

Saturday, July 18

“Imagine” fundraiser: Gourmet dining, dancing, auction bidding and the music of the Beatles starting at 5 p.m. at Orcas Center. The event is a fundraiser for the center. Tickets are $150 per person. Visit www.orcascenter.org or call 376-2281 ext. 1.

Concert at Deer Harbor: The Ian McFeron Band from Seattle will play at the Deer Harbor Marina at 5 p.m.; free and open to all ages.

Olga Daze: Begins at 10 a.m. in the Olga Community Center and Olga Park. Festivities include a huge barn and yard sale, a silent auction.

July 18 & 19

Grace Kuto: On July 18 Kenyan author Grace Kuto will make mandazis, a donut-like fried bread at Emmanuel Epsicopal’s courtyard from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and her daughter Lutomia and the Orion gospel Chorale will perform. July 19 at 6 p.m. she will prepare a Kenyan meal at the Orcas Senior Center.

Sunday, July 19

Abbey Road LIVE!: Orcas Center at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $24, $16 (Orcas Center members) and $10 (students). For more information, visit www.orcascenter.org, call 376-2281 ext. 1.

Concert in the Green: Martin Lund and the “Orcas Horns ‘O Plenty” along with Gene Nery, Bruce Russell and Tony Morales, will be playing a live concert in the green from 5 to 7 p.m.

Monday, July 20

Open mic: Lower Tavern has open mic night weekly starting at 8:30 p.m. Jaen Black hosts.

WEDNESDAY-ONGOING

Brown Bag concerts: A different band every Wednesday at noon through August at Emmanuel Church. Free; donations welcome. Bring a lunch and enjoy a picnic on the lawn overlooking the shore at Emmanuel.

THURSDAY – ONGOING

Open Mic Pizza Night: Weekly at Doe Bay Resort Cafe, benefits island nonprofits. Dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. and the Open Mic starts between 7 and 8 p.m.

FRIDAY – ONGOING

Silent meditation: At Ama Tara Healing and Meditation Center, from 8 to 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Visit www.AmaTaraCenter.com or call 376-5900 for more information.

Music: Live music at Darvill’s Bookstore from 5 to 6 p.m. Free. Different musicians every week.
