Treasure Island: south end find on Lopez
December 1, 2008 · Updated 8:01 PM
On Tuesday, Nov. 24, contractor Steve Orcutt was at a client’s home performing clean up at the work site, and he and a co-worker were getting ready to toss a few odds and ends into the back of their vehicle when, on a whim, one of the men unscrewed the caps on the end of a PVC pipe.
Lo and behold, a dozen silver dollars wrapped in plastic as well as almost 1,000.00 in cash was found stuffed in the pipe. While many of us might have visions of pirates and buried loot dancing in our heads at such a find, it turns out that, in actuality, the former owner of the home had buried his stash and as age set upon him, he was unable to remember the location of the goods. He and his relatives were contacted, and the treasure returned to its rightful owner.
