Orcas Island once again has an Italian restaurant, and at the site on Prune Alley that was once occupied by La Famiglia, across the street from Roses Bakery Cafe.
The new restaurant is called LuLu's Pasta Rustica, and it opens today, April 5. LuLu's hours are 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week. It's closed Tuesdays.
Lulu's is a partnership of Chris and Julie Hogle, who formerly operated the Sunflower Cafe at this location, and Dave and Jessica Nesse. The Hogles will serves as business mentors, while the Nesses will be managing the restaurant.
"We are very excited about this opportunity, and about how great the restaurant looks," Jessica said. "We've all spent a lot of energy making it clean and beautiful."
The partners have spent a month of long work days updating and replacing almost every surface, inside and out. Chris ands Julie spent four grueling days putting in hardwood floors. Jessica and Dave did all the painting inside and out.
Julie said members of the community have been dropping by to take a peek. "It seems that they all want Italian food."
Lulu's menu will feature both classic Italian American favorites and regional specialties moderately priced and in a comfortable and casual atmosphere. Call 376-2335.
